Dave Garvey
Board Member At-Large
Dave Garvey is a founding board member of White Pine Wilderness Academy. He is a retired educator from Washington Township and Warren
Township Schools where he taught construction trades for 25 years. He received Teacher of the Year at both J. Everitt Light Career Center and
Walker Career Center as well as a Lilly Endowment Teacher Creativity Fellowship Award in 1992 to pursue his interest in alternative building
designs and earth-covered housing. Dave is recently retired as a long-time building contractor, having built over 20 homes during his career with students and two of his own homes.
He has been married for over 50 years and is a proud father and grandfather. He attended St. Meinrad College, Colorado State University,
Indiana State University, and St. Cloud State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education in Biology and Philosophy. Dave has always had a passion for experiential and outdoor education. He completed a White Pine Wilderness Academy Vision Quest in 2013.
