If you feel this calling then please apply for the Village Keeper or Fire Keeper Programs or, if you have previous experience, then apply for employment.

Safety
Safety is paramount. At White Pine, we are responsible for the safety and well-being of anywhere from 20 to 100 students a day. The procedures, resources, training, and certifications we require contain invaluable information, however, it is the ongoing re-evaluation process that keeps safety at the forefront of our minds. In short, safety is a choice of Awareness, make that choice every day. Recommended reading- The Gift of Fear by Gavin DeBecker.
Solos
Time alone is essential for everyone, especially those on the Shikari Journey. Every minute of dirt time you put into nature will pay you back 100-fold in confidence, peace, purpose, and joy. The Solo Guild is an essential component of The Path of The Mentor. With all of the training you do at White Pine, you
will be well prepared for a Wilderness Right of Passage of any kind. Just
Choose the Pathway you are most inspired by, set your intention, and begin
preparing for your Solo. Solos are small Quests. A Quest is too fast or goes without. You are going without the comforts of your home, family, and community and eventually, you may go without anything at all and walk naked into the Wilderness. The Solo system is designed to help you find your edge, not push you past the point of no return.
Mentor
A Shikari is a Mentor and Wilderness Guide. They live, move, breathe, and sleep seeking new learning and teaching opportunities. Stalking Wolf used to say, “In all things you must find a purpose greater than self”, that purpose for Stalking Wolf and for us is ‘To Teach’. Some of Stalking Wolf’s lessons like Go Ask The Mice, were masterful lessons in Coyote Mentoring. Other lessons were transmitted through stories or through living and embodying the teachings. Grandfather Ingwe used to say, “When an antelope no longer learns, then it is a dead boy.” Grandfather Ernie Shull’s 82 years of obsessive naturalist studies took him all across the planet. The Shikari Journey is a lifelong Quest of learning and teaching. The Path of the Mentor bears the most fruit because you always have a purpose greater than self. All of the Shields and Pathways will open their doors to you.
